  The Energy Policy Act of 2005 requires that federal agencies purchase only ENERGY STAR or FEMP designated products. These products use less energy and reduce life-cycle costs, ultimately saving taxpayers' dollars. In addition, since these products use less energy, they result in fewer greenhouse gas emissions and less air pollution. During this two-hour presentation, you will learn about this and other energy efficient procurement policies, which products this law applies to and how to obtain these products from the federal supply agencies and commercial sources.   As the world's largest volume-buyer of energy-related products, the federal government can reduce energy consumption and achieve enormous cost savings by purchasing energy-efficient products. Federal buyers are now required by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to purchase products that are ENERGY STAR -qualified or FEMP-designated. (These products are in the upper 25% of energy efficiency in their class.) The purchasing requirements are codified by FAR Part 23. In addition, Executive Order 13221 requires that federal agencies purchase products with low standby power. • Energy Policy Act (EPAct), FreedomCAR & Vehicle Technologies Program
  The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct) was passed by Congress to reduce our nation's dependence on imported petroleum by requiring certain fleets to acquire alternative fuel vehicles, which are capable of operating on nonpetroleum fuels. The U.S. Department of Energy administers the regulations through the Federal Fleet Requirements, State and Alternative Fuel Provider Rule, Private and Local Government Fleet Rule, and Alternative Fuel Designation Authority.
